18th Century Walnut & Parcel Gilt Mirror

A magnificent and important 18th Century George II Parcel Gilt Mirror in the manner of William Kent. In excellent condition retaining the original mirror plate. The fine detail of the carving is intact and has not been lashed over and refinished as many of this period have. The original gilding is in wonderful condition and shines brightly as it should. The Mirror is particularly well shaped and carved having a wonderfully executed Ho Ho bird to the centre of the crest. The tip of one of the birds wings has been repaired at some stage and the bird refixed. Circa 1740
 
On the back of the Mirror the name Penrose is written, we found from research that Alexandrina Peckover left some of her possessions to her Nephew Sir Ronald Penrose the Surrealist painter and art collector.
