We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian writing desks, produced between 1901 and 1910, are defined by lighter, more refined proportions compared to Victorian furniture, drawing heavy inspiration from 18th-century Neoclassical designs. They frequently feature satinwood or boxwood inlays, floral motifs, tapered legs, and gilded leather writing surfaces.

These pieces were typically crafted using dense mahogany or satinwood frames, decorated with delicate timber stringing and veneers. Secondary timbers such as pine or oak were used for drawer linings, complemented by hand-tooled leather writing tops and cast brass drawer pull handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit precise machine-assisted dovetail joints, original brass castors, and period-correct hardware such as ring-pull handles. Look for genuine age patina on timber surfaces, unpolished drawer undersides, and fine timber crossbanding around drawer fronts.

Place the desk in a home office or corner reading nook, paired with a contemporary chair to create a balanced mix of eras. Accentuate the mahogany tones by styling with modern neutral walls, minimalistic table lamps, and structured greenery.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and applying high-grade beeswax polish annually along the wood grain. Clean the leather surface with a specialized damp cloth, keeping the desk positioned away from direct sunlight and radiators to avoid cracking or fading.
