£1,500 $2,010 €1,757
Carleton Grant RBA 1858-1899.Born in Liverpool he developed a highly individual form of watercolour landscape painting. While undoubtedly influenced by the nocturnes of James NcNeill Whistler, his contribution presents evening time in a manner that is particularly soft and gentle with the last light reflected in quiet backwaters, often those of the Thames Valley.Prior to 1892 he lived in North Wales at Rhyl and Llandudno but in that year he moved to the Thames Valley. In the same year he started exhibiting at the Royal Academy exhibiting 10 works between 1892-1897.His main showcase was the Royal Society of British Artists where he showed 24 works in his short career. His work was shown to Queen Victoria and her daughter Princess Louise at Windsor Castle and each purchased two works. ‘ Windsor Castle from the River Thames’ signed watercolour dated 1891 image size 33x64 cms, framed size 59.5x89 cms.An impressive watercolour.
