Taxidermy – Dormouse By Peter Spicer & Sons Of Leamington Spa. Circa 1904
Status:This item has been sold Sold by:Kendall House Antiques Ltd.
A remarkably small wall dome with ebonized frame and typical water colour back drop. Possibly the smallest Spicer case ever produced. With unusually small trade label to the rear of the case, which I have only ever seen once before, dating the case to circa 1904. For more information on this famous Victorian taxidermy firm see “A Record of Spicer’s” published by myself back 2001.
22.5cm Diameter.
The nocturnal Dormouse named for their long, dormant hibernation period of six months or longer. Once common in the UK, the Hazel Dormouse has for some time been considered at risk of extinction.
