Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Vernis Martin secretaire a abattant is a French drop-front writing cabinet featuring a specialised japanning or lacquering technique invented by the Martin brothers in the eighteenth century, showcasing hand-painted pastoral scenes framed by gilded bronze mounts.

These pieces typically feature fine wood veneers such as kingwood or rosewood arranged in parquetry patterns, embellished with cast ormolu mounts and finished with multi-layered hand-painted varnish panels.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-fitted joinery, cast bronze mounts with natural surface patination, detailed hand-painted vignettes with fine lacquer craquelure, and heavy drop-front flap mechanisms.

A drop-front secretaire serves as a statement focal point in a hallway, study, or living room, providing a contrast to contemporary minimalist decor when set against neutral backdrops.

Preserve the lacquered finish and delicate veneer by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, maintaining a stable temperature away from direct heat or sunlight, and avoiding moisture or harsh chemical polishes.
