Superb Victorian Silver & Crocodile Skin Small Purse by Charles Penny Brown, Birmingham 1897

Description

This wonderful and unusual Edwardian silver mounted crocodile skin bears the marks of the renowned Charles Penny Brown, brown crocodile skin purse with a sinuous silver mount with pierced bluebell border, very much in the Art Nouveau manner. The silver clasp is fully functioning and opens to reveal four "accordeon" compartments.

Additional front pocket.

Hallmarks:

CPB for Charle Penny Brown.

Lion passant.

Birmingham mark.

Date letter "x" for 1897.

Hallmarks on clasp

Crown & Moon for German silver

Maker's marks.

925 for silver purity.

Condition:

Crocodile skin in excellent glossy condition.

Silver corners and clasp in very good condition.

Very good and clean interior.

Dimensions:

Length: 11.5cm / 4.4 inches.

Height: 6cm / 2.2 inches.
