Description

This recent arrival from Iran is a rare and charming 'chanteh' or vanity-bag in gabbeh technique.

The simple blocks of natural colours including golden-yellow, indigo-blue, turquoise and natural ivory knotted in glossy wool,is set against a madder-red background. The bag is complete with its madder-red plain-weave back containing a reciprocal red and blue outer border design and symbolic '8-pointed star' in the centre as a means of protecting the contents. The base of the bag is brocaded for resilience and the top is brocaded with slits for the ties.

Size: 25cm (10") square.
