WWI British Officer’s Trench Torch

1900 - 1920
Description

A good example of an original antique military issue signalling torch. It has a bulbous front lens and a wheel behind with a green filter, red filter and blank section, allowing different coloured lights to be shone. It has a makers plaque "The Orilux. J.H.Steward Ltd. 406 Strand. London". The body is covered in leather and the metal parts are finished in a chrome or nickel plating. The bottom of the torch opens which presumably gives access to the battery compartment or power source. It comes in a protective thick canvas case with the name 'Walton' on.

It is in good condition for its age. I have not tested it in any way and it is being sold as a decorative collectable item only. There are signs of age and use, some minor marks and knocks around the casing and some tarnishing on the metal parts but no obvious major damages. It has been lightly cleaned and displays very nicely.

The best description comes from the photographs so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
