ANTIQUE #SA1010596

A Rare Charles II Carved Oak Mule Chest, Lancashire/cheshire, Fourth Quarter 17th Century

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Jeckyll & Co

Bold, sculptural and commodious

A regional variation identifed by Victor Chinery in ''Oak Furniture, A British Tradition'' p481-486, he writes of the Lancashire/ Cheshire type, ''The best of these is a widely varied combination of flowers and grapes, often centring on a fan-shaped flower head. Another exciting exciting subject is a stylised dragon which sometimes appears on chairs or chests.''

Good condition overall, a couple of small losses to the geometric moulding and small rougher section above the escutcheon.
