Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Santos figures, originating within Catholic traditions and Spanish Colonial art, are carved sculptures depicting saints, angels, or the Virgin Mary. Traditionally commissioned for home altars, chapels, or religious processions, they served as visual aids for prayer and veneration.

Traditional Santos figures are typically crafted from carved wood covered in a layer of gesso, hand-painted with polychrome pigments, and dressed in tailored textile garments. Many examples incorporate glass eyes, hand-sewn embellishments, and metal or gilded crowns.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display natural age-related wear to the timber and gesso, fine craquelure across painted surfaces, and hand-stitched historical textiles. Hand-carved joinery underneath the drapery and hand-beaten metal accessories also signal genuine age.

A Santos figure functions as a dramatic focal point when displayed atop an oak sideboard, placed inside a glass cabinet, or arranged alongside antique leather books and dark wood furniture in an eclectic interior.

To preserve delicate painted wood and original fabrics, position the figure away from direct sunlight, moisture, and heating sources. Gently dust the wooden surfaces and textiles using a dry, soft-bristled brush.
