A Handsome 18th Century Silver Sugar Basket

A truly lovely large 18th Century silver sugar basket. This impressive example stands on a pierced, raised base and has corresponding decoration to the body, featuring flowers and swags in the 'Adams' taste.The handle is cast and formed from a band of co-joined loops and the basket retains the original blue glass liner. A charming and practical piece for use or display. Dimensions below.

Condition :- Excellent, with no splits, dents or losses to the silver and no cracks or chips to the glass. There is evidence of an old strengthening repair to the inside of the foot, shown in photo and commensurate with age and use.

Date :- London 1779.

Hallmarks :- Date letter, Crowned leopard and Sterling lion. Loss to the maker's mark.

Height :- 18.5 cms. (handle up).

12.5 cms. (handle down).

Diameter :- 9.5 cms.
