Cranberry glass, also known as Gold Ruby glass, is a red-tinted glass produced by adding gold salts or chloride to molten glass batches. It gained widespread popularity in nineteenth-century Britain during the Victorian era for decorative tableware and vessels.

Craftsmen created these vessels by hand-blowing gold-infused ruby glass. Decorative elements such as clear glass handles, footed bases, and stoppers were crafted separately and applied to the primary coloured body while still molten.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples display a polished or snapped pontil mark on the base from hand-blowing. They also frequently exhibit minor hand-blown inclusions or air bubbles alongside separately applied clear glass handles and original ground stoppers.

Position the decanter on a dark wood sideboard, a drinks trolley, or near a window where light penetrates the coloured glass to highlight its hue and form.

Hand wash using lukewarm water and gentle dish washing detergent, avoiding hot water to prevent thermal shock. Allow the interior to air dry completely using rolled paper towels to prevent internal moisture clouding.
