Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Jardiniere stands became prominent during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in France, designed to display exotic flora inside formal townhouses and chateaux. During the Second Empire and Louis XV Revival periods, cabinetmakers combined classic cabriole legs with decorative metal mounts and porcelain plaques to create freestanding indoor planters.

These pieces typically feature hard wood frames veneered in figurative woods such as burr walnut, kingwood, or rosewood. Decorator elements include hand-chased gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts, pierced brass top galleries, zinc interior liners for water resistance, and inset soft-paste or hard-paste porcelain plaques.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples feature hand-cut joinery, heavy cast and hand-chased brass or bronze mounts with mercury gilding, and hand-painted porcelain plaques featuring floral vignettes and cobalt or turquoise ground colours rather than modern transfer prints.

A French jardiniere stand functions as a focal accent near a window sill, within an entrance hall, or beside formal seating. In contemporary settings, the removable lid allows the piece to serve either as a plant display or as an occasional side table.

Dust wood surfaces with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax sparingly to preserve the veneer. Ormolu mounts should be gently dusted with a soft brush, avoiding chemical metal cleaners that can strip original gilding or seep into adjacent wood and porcelain.
