Alongside Morison & Co. the firm of Whytock & Reid were the pre-eminent cabinet makers in Scotland in the early 20th century supplying excellent quality furniture to the professional and aristocratic classes throughout Scotland and beyond.
 
Inspired by 18th century library chairs, but interpretting the form rather than slavishly reproducing it, this chair has is made with a deep sprung seat and shorter leg, while retaining refinements such as the well-carved arm terminals and the chamerfering to the inside and bottom edge of the legs.
 
* W&R often made bespoke furniture, adapting their existing models to meet the requirements of their patrons. Some were given model names and these often related to the clients for whom they were commissioned.
