A pretty hand stitched Victorian Needlework Rug, made of wool yarn. Stitched in the mid nineteenth century (although border probably attached at a later date), this charming cloth based rug would look delightful in a cottage bedroom.
A rare piece in remarkably good condition, except for a small hole on the reverse in the linen backing, as shown in the photograph, and one tiny piece of wear to the main frame, also as shown in the ultimate photograph. As is typical of the Victorian era, the floral pattern includes rich colours. This rug is most likely to have been embroidered by a middle class woman to decorate her home.
