A mid to late 18th century Dutch marquetry bureau of bombe form and of exceptional quality.
The piece of typical Dutch styling for this period, the bombe form exaggerated by the corbel-like mouldings on the side. The piece is veneered in walnut of fine colour and is inlaid throughout with floral marquetry of sophisticated form. Dutch furniture of this period is renowned for the quality of its marquetry but this piece also incorporates some fine carved detailing in the form of a rocaille ornament on the apron and the beautiful hairy claw front feet.
The interior of the bureau section is a tour de force, incorporating straight and shaped drawers, hidden compartments and fitted inkwell compartments. It is also inlaid with floral designs throughout and due to protection from the light, some of the green stains applied to some of the marquetry is still in evidence.
This piece is now a very pleasant mellow colour but this is a real show stopping piece of furniture that will never fade in to the background.
One of the finest examples of this style of furniture with an exceptional colour.
