Made by the Timuri Salar Khanii tribe in western Afghanistan during the second half of the 19th century, the long, brocaded skirts at each end are woven in silk and metal thread indicating that this soffreh was a highly prized possession and was possibly part of the dowry belonging to a Timuri tribal chief. This is a very rare and a highly collectable weaving.
