Mappin & Webb Slide Opening Silver Vesta Case Hallmarked Birmingham 1924

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

An unusual and very fine slide opening silver vesta case. The case is designed in rectangular convex shape and is decorated with a neat engine turned pattern. On the top there is a circular hole where a match can be placed to use it as a ''go to bed''. The case opens with a sliding mechanism by being pushed at the bottom end, where the clear hallmarks are visible for Birmingham 1924 along with the Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver and the maker''s mark for the renowned silver maker: Mappin & Webb. There are also partial marks visible on the back at the top of the vesta.

A rare item and in great condition. Lovely for a collector of vesta cases and a good heavy gauge of silver. There is a tiny indentation to the left of the hallmarks at the base, hardly noticeable to the naked eye and mentioned for accuracy only.
