Royal Worcester 'Before the Wind' and 'Against the Wind' Figurines by James Hadley C.1876

Description

A superb pair of very rare Royal Worcester porcelain figures by James Hadley. Executed in the Pre-Raphaelite style as the maidens 'Before the Wind' and 'Against the Wind', they are painted in muted bronze colours with gold patterns, with great attention to movement and detail. One of the girls is wrapped in a pink scarf, which beautifully shades the rich colour of her dress.

The colours used by the artist deserve special attention.

Such a range of colours is very unusual for Royal Worcester. Particularly impressive are the golden patterns, which the artist has used very subtly. I recommend you enlarge the photo and enjoy the artist's fine work.

26cm and 28cm high.

Condition:

The Against the Wind figure is in excellent condition - with no visible chips, damage or signs of restoration. The colours are perfectly preserved, as is the gilding.

The Before the Wind figure - both legs have been professionally restored - see photos. Otherwise the figure is in excellent antique condition with the colours and gilding fully intact.
