An unusual fine quality silver string box formed as a sphere with weighted steel interior set into a decorative gimbal frame. Stood on a weighted stepped circular pedestal foot with knopped stem, the base frame has decorative cast detailing below the nuts that hold the horizontal ring which in turn holds the sphere with pins that sit in the sides. It has a full range of gyroscopic movement. The dispenser funnel is a detachable plug that pushes in the top.
Hallmarked to the base and funnel for Sheffield 1907, makers Walker & Hall, and partial marks to the frame.
It measures 10.5cm (4 1/8'') high and 7cm (2 3/4'') wide. It weighs 215g (both the base and sphere are weighted).
In excellent condition with no damage or repair and only minor handling wear.
