Art Deco Display Cabinet

1920 - 1940
Description

An Art Deco octagonal display cabinet in walnut and set on an angled base. One central door with walnut detailing and a fixed glazed panel either side. Internally two glass shelves and the base allowing further display. Fitted with a battery operated light. Original makers label, ‘Rurka’ to back.

Joseph (or Joe) Rurka was born in about 1890 in Berdichev, Ukraine. His father supplied timber to carpenters. He left his six brothers, one sister and parents in about 1910 and came to London, England, where he married Eva (nee Hirsh) where he had a small furniture factory in London's East End.

All our furniture is professionally polished and restored where necessary. Our restorer has over 40 years of furniture restoration experience including 15 years living at Windsor Castle whilst restoring furniture for the Royal household, so comes highly recommended.
