An ebonised longcase clock, the arched hood above a rectangular door and conforming plinth base, the brass dial inscribed Thomas Cartwright, London with Roman and Arabic numerals and with subsidiary seconds dial and two train movement.
A very fine early 18th century longcase clock dated between 1720-30
Thomas Cartwright is recorded born 1679 apprenticed to Christopher Gould in 1693, started taking his own apprentices in 1705 and died in 1741. Working in watches, and longcase clocks, signed “Thomas Cartwright London”, A very good early maker who was CLOCKMAKER TO QUEEN ANNE AND GEORGE 1ST.
