Pair of early C19th Italian ‘Grand Tour’ souvenir alabaster classical design vases.

Smart pair of lidded alabaster vases of Grecian amphora form , the creamy-white tapering ovoid bodies with subtle grey and peach-coloured striations and inclusions. Each raised on turned socles onto square block bases , the turned necks with angular flat profile handles . Fitted with removable lids and having simple carved finials .

Each vase having achieved a polished lustrous surface and ‘skin’ to the stone. One vase with an historic chip to top of the body , one lid with a minor chip .

An elegant pair of alabaster vases of pure classical design and form.

Grand Tour alabaster vases are carved stone decorative urns produced in Italy during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
