Description

Small rugs from Seichour in the Kuba region of the eastern Caucasus are rare. The most common lengths tend to be 2.50m to 3m long.

This fabulous little rug is in excellent condition and dates to the last qauarter of the nineteenth century.

The field design comprises zoomorphic creatures and within the upper-middle, madder-red symbol can be seen a tiny stylised human (see close-up photo). The natural colours are truly fabulous. Beautiful shades of red, dark indigo-blue, light blue, turquoise, golden-yellow and ivory dominate the ground and the rug is complete with its braided warp ends - rare to find in a rug of this age as they are usually worn off! This rug must have been well-loved over the years to remain in this amazing condition.
