Pairs of antique desk chairs are scarce. We have known the whereabouts of this fine mahogany and walnut pair for the last thirty years and were delighted when we received an invitation to purchase them. As the original trade label states (see image), they were manufactured by George Bartholomew & Co. (1850 - 1882) based in Finsbury and Coleman Street in London. Antique furniture that carries a maker''s name is often manufactured to a higher standard than unnamed pieces, this is definitely the case with these partner''s desk chairs. Why partners? A partner''s desk is double-sided and can accommodate two people (partners) working on it simultaneously, and to add to the symmetry yet further, a pair of desk chairs would have been also commissioned. However, over the ensuing years, the majority were separated, leaving few true pairs from this period. Now they have been sympathetically restored these rare survivors are ready to grace your office, study or library.
Whenever possible Culvertons undertake the carriage of items within London and the home counties. Professional, competitive and trusted couriers and shipping companies are engaged for deliveries for the remainder of our customers. Smaller items, when instructed, will be carefully parcelled and securely sent by the carrier.
We strive to accurately describe and illustrate our stock on the 'Selling Antiques' website. However, we understand that it is not always possible to judge from photographs how an item will look in the home or garden. For this reason, if notified within seven days from the date of delivery we offer a full refund (less any agreed carriage costs) once the item has been returned in the same condition as it left our premises.
