19th century oil on canvas signed by Colin Graeme Roe (1855 - 1910) of a bay hunter in a stable. The painting is mounted in a simple gilt frame. It is signed by the artist and dated 1884.

Colin Graeme Roe was from the Sheffield area. Roe's work was very variable but he tended to paint horses and dogs in their environment. He was the son of the artist Robert Henry Roe (1793-1880) and the brother of Fred Roe (1864-1947). He initially signed his work ‘Colin Graeme Roe’ but later dropped the surname ‘Roe’ in order to distinguish himself from other members of his family who were artists. He was a very talented painter and was perhaps best known for his excellent depiction of all breeds of dogs. He has works in the Dudley Museum and the Sheffield Museum.
