Late C19th Chinese export red lacquer altar table of early C18th Kangxi period design.
 
Highly decorative Chinese polychrome red lacquer oblong altar or console table . The top decorated with a traditional mountainous landscape scene with pavilions . Stepped and pierced friezes with floral peony painted decoration and open fret-work to the sides . The edge of the top with a running key design. The uprights with traditional carved Chinese key design , the open ends with shaped inserts , joined by stretchers to the base .
 
Of free-standing form with all-round lacquer and painted decoration .
 
An exotic and atmospheric Chinese table of good scale and proportions, in as found , country-house , fresh-to-the-market unrestored condition, with some wear and losses to the lacquer decoration. Structurally strong and sound .
