Description

We are delighted to offer this Georgian solid silver pocket snuff box with the marks of Thomas Wilkes Barker, London 1824.

Classically Georgian in design, this pocket snuff box features lovely reede lines and engine-turned motifs on the base and lid.

In addition to the geometric designs, the top lid features an ornate floral chased border that accents the central area and cartouche.

The box's interior is fully gilt (gold layer on top of solid silver) which has a rich gold tone and contrasts the exterior whilst adding a layer of protection for the silver from oxidising with the contents held within.

Whilst modest and portable in size, pocket snuff boxes are nice formats to display intricate silversmithing and workmanship in a small area/format. Further, due to its portability, it may also be practically used to store pipe tobacco/snuff or perhaps some mints or tablets.

A full set of English hallmarks are present on the interior base and lid.

CONDITION
