Comparative to English silver of the same period, Irish chased silver features a slightly different style with a deeper and more contrasted relief. This can be very attractive and desirable for ornate interior settings and is an element of additional collectability.
Owing to its age and the manner in which Irish chased silver was decorated, this bowl presents a lovely patina and colour contrast between the recessed stippling and the embossed relief areas.
The depth and 'crispness' of Irish chasing remain particularly well in this example with ornate decorations throughout that is tactile to the touch.
The decorative and ornamentations on this bowl is spectacular with no corners cut.
No space has been wasted without consideration for intricate embellishments; the top flared section features an exceptional sea-spume/coral-like decoration, followed by the band of chased decorations with two crested cartouches and finally a daring yet effective contrast of leaving the bottom section 'plain' with solely a reeded motif to the base edge.
Even in the modern day, we believe such decorative yet practical pieces of silverware have versatile uses: why not indulge in displaying and offering some of your favourite fruit on a dining table or perhaps use it as a small flower vase? Additional uses may include a sugar bowl, slop bowl (for instance empty shells when eating seafood), finger bowl etc.
The bowl is marked with Irish hallmarks on the bottom rim of the bowl.

CONDITION
Good Condition - The bowl is in great antique condition with no major visible issues or damage. There are some slight wear and surface scratching as expected with antiques of this age and one section on the flared section that appears to potentially be an old solder (Last two photos).
Due to the stippled/chased decoration, in person, it is quite hard to find without close inspection however, we have mentioned this for accuracy.
We aim to overemphasize and state these issues to avoid disappointment and thus please rest assured they are not significant nor affect the usage of the items.
One note; the 'scraped' area on the rear side of the bowl is not a later damage/defect but as a result of an original action by an assay master performing assay testing. In order to guarantee and confirm the silver content is of passing standard and the assayer would scrape (hopefully a non-disruptive) area of the silverware to test for its purity/contents. Interestingly enough, the remnants of the silver scrapings would be kept upon the retirement of the assay masters and as such some individuals would scrape as much as 'reasonably possible' which led to very large marks, more than really necessary as is the case with this item.
