Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A kneehole bureau is a historic writing desk design combining a slanted drop-front writing slope with a central recessed cavity underneath, flanked by vertical banks of small drawers, providing legroom and structured storage.

Craftsmen primarily used solid oak or pine for the internal carcass, overlaid with fine burr or figured walnut veneers, often featuring feather banding, solid brass handles, and iron lock mechanisms.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings, thick hand-cut veneers, cast brass hardware with split-pin fastenings, and natural timber shrinkage or minor unevenness across surfaces.

Position the bureau in a quiet study nook, living room alcove, or hallway. Pair it with modern desk accessories, neutral wall paint, and structured ambient lighting to balance the rich grain and warm tones of the timber.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the furniture away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent drying or cracking.
