Isidore Bonheur: a fine large bronze thoroughbred stallion, beautifully modelled and finely detailed, with saddle and bridle. He stands on a naturalistic base which is signed: I. Bonheur. Good colour and patina. Good size: 15ins (38cms) long and 12ins (30.5cms) high.

** Isidore Jules Bonheur, best known as one of the 19th century’s most distinguished French animalier sculptors. Bonheur began his career as an artist working with his elder sister Rosa Bonheur in the studio of their father, drawing instructor Raymond Bonheur. Born in Bordeaux in 1827, died in Paris 1901.
