An unusual english single fusee mantel clock in a Louis XV style rocaille ormolu case in the french taste. The eight day fusee movement is of superb quality with a pendulum descending through the bottom of the case and visible though the pierced plinth below with original hold fast. The gilt bronze dial with engine turned centre has black Roman numerals and superb heart shaped hands of blued steel in the manner favoured by Payne.
The dial is signed Hay 20 Davies Street, Berkeley Square, London, the fire gilded bronze case is superbly cast and chased with pierce silk backed sound vents. Decorated with foliate scroll work and gilt floral finial.
