Ernst Wahliss, by the end of the 1880s, had emerged as Vienna's leading porcelain and ceramics merchant. Since 1863, he had managed a successful ceramic shop in Vienna. This venture's immense international success allowed him to establish stores in major European cities like London and Paris, and to supply high-quality ceramics to numerous royal families across Europe.
The sculpture hails from the late 19th century, with its trade mark on the base used between 1897 and 1906.
The figurine is in excellent condition, save for a tiny chip on the thumbnail of the right hand, which holds the basket. However, this chip is barely noticeable. The right hand's brush needs cleaning to remove the grey patina. Otherwise, the paint and gilding remain in fantastic condition.
