Description:
A very unusual Victorian Tole ware coal box with a hinged lid.
This box shaped coal bucket is decorated with a scrumbled painted walnut grain and highlighted with gilt detailing. The front has corinthian style quarter columns and the box stands on four sturdy metal bun feet. The box has two outstanding carrying handles made of gilded brass flower shaped fixtures and ivory coloured pottery handle grips.
The interior has a black metal liner, which has its' own folding handles to assist when lifting it out full of coal. The box does show signs of wear to the gilding and painted wood grain, although has no notable damage and is complete with working handles and hinges. An interesting addition to any fireplace. (Circa 1880)
