Description:

19th century Victorian silver plate biscuit barrel or jar in the aesthetic form by famous luxury goods makers Hukin and Heath, the company where Christopher Dresser was the artistic advisor.
Jonathan Wilson Hukin and John Thomas Heath were known under Dresser's direction for providing goods for the Victorian family table, having stylised shapes and distinctive designs, which appealed to the fashion conscious public. Many were inspired by Japanese designs.
With an all over dimpled bark effect to surface, shaped top and bottom edges and lid with pomegranate finial, this is a lovely and heavy example, which may possibly have been designed by Dresser. It stands on a pedestal foot.
The bottom of piece bears Hukin and Heath marks as well as pattern number 5769, and other markings.
Size-7 inches tall. Top diameter 4.5 inches. Bottom diameter 6.5 inches.
An unusual, beautifully crafted and very functional piece in very good condition.
Date: Victorian
