Description:

This impressive antique George III sterling silver teapot has an oval rounded form onto four ball feet.

This fine teapot is embellished with a broad band of floral and leaf bright cut engraved decoration to the upper portion incorporating a bold bright cut engraved floral motif to the centre of the anterior face.

The lower portion of the teapot is unembellished apart from a rectangular cartouche displaying fox / dog's head crest to one side, and a vacant rectangular cartouche to the other.

The domed hallmarked flush hinged cover is embellished with bright cut engraved and pin struck decoration and surmounted by a sterling silver cushion shaped finial which retains the original hallmarked winged nut.

The teapot is fitted with an impressive flat faced handle embellished with a single interlaced band of bright cut engraved decoration and ornamented with a plain scroll thumbpiece.

This George III teapot has an impressive thread decorated swan necked spout.

Condition

This antique teapot is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.
The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp.
Full hallmarks are struck to the surface and part hallmarks are struck to the cover, handle and finial.
The hallmarks struck to the body are slightly rubbed as would be expected in this type of teapot with marks struck to a smooth surface - hallmarks struck to such a surface are not as embedded as those struck to a heavily chased item.
Part hallmarks struck to the interior of the cover and handle are very clear.
