Victorian Burr Walnut Biedermier Work Box ca 1860 This beautiful antique Victorian burr walnut biedermeir work box has a quarter veneer, serpentine moulded top and the interior has two replacement lift out trays above a storage compartment. The piece is an unusual curved shape and stands on four elegant tapering cabriole legs. The piece is a golden walnut colour with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing. 19thC English Victoriran period Japanned (patented technique of layering paint creating a lacquer like finish) and mother of pearl spectacular workbox/table.

19th century English Victorian period Japanned (paint layering technique) and beautifully matched mother of pearl inlaid work table on stand having chinoiserie decoration of cockerels, bamboo and flowers. The hinged top reveals a fitted interior for sewing accoutrement or jewellery over a sliding basket with original silk bag, terminating in scroll supports. The mother of pearl decoration appears on all sides, legs, underside of lid and the fitted interior as well, allowing it to stand in the middle of room if desired. In original excellent condition. It is unlikely that you will ever see another. Approx. 19 inches wide by 13 inches deep by 29.5 inches high.
