FINE DR WALL WORCESTER Kakiemon plate, C.1770. |
| A VERY FINE First Period Worcester KAKIEMON, Sir Joshua Reynolds pattern dish. C.1770.
Provenance:- M.H.STIEGLITZ COLLECTION, no.34, other references, and marked with the unusual factory 'W' for Worcester.
CONDITION:- SUPERB, with no chips, cracks, restoration, or rubbing to gilding or those beautiful emamels. The cleanest example I have ever seen. There was an example like this plate that a good dealer was offering on ebay recently, that had quite a lot of rubbing to the enamels and gilding, scratches, and also a chip and a hairline crack on it. They were asking £785, so I am setting a very realistic price for a better example.
References: see R.L. Hobson, Worcester Porcelain, 1910.(Quaritch) for a section discussing this design, Kakiemon influences, and the Ho Ho bird. See plate XXXIV for illustrations. The Ho Ho birds are also found on Chelsea and Chantilly porcelain.
