Georgian Mahogany Commode |
| This is a Georgian dark mahogany commode which simulates a small chest of drawers which would have disguised its use. It stands on tapered bracket feet, has a carrying handle on either side and the front has turned wooden knobs. There is an old split to the top. The top two simulated drawers fold up to reveal a turned round wooden lid with knob which is fitted into a square panel, also removable so that the bowl can be easily removed. The round lid lifts to reveal the original pottery bowl. The interior is clean. It is a charming piece which could still be employed today; it has also become fashionable to use these as wine coolers or planters. (17" deep, 24" wide, 27" high)
