This is a superb original watercolour painting of Exeter Cathedral by Cyril Hardy. Cyril Hardy is a listed artist who painted European and Eastern Scenes. The painting is of the Sout East side of the Cathedral. Dating to the late nineteenth / early twentieth century period. The watercolour is signed to the bottom left. The painting is nicely framed and glazed. The picture is 19 1/4" by 15 1/2" including the mount and frame and 11 3/4" by 8" excluding the mount and frame. This is a delightful original watercolour and gouache painting by John Shapland. John Shapland (1865 - 1929) is a well listed artist. He generally painted in watercolour, his subjects were mainly Seascapes and Moorland Scenes. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, Paris Salon and also in the USA. Shapland was principle of Exeter School Of Art from 1899 to 1913. The subject of this painting is The Castle Rock, Valley Of The Rocks, Lynton, North Devon, there are Seagulls flying past at various heights. Dating to around the early 1900's. Signed to the bottom left. The picture is 20 1/2" by 15 1/2" including the mount and frame and 14 1/4" by 10 1/4" excluding the mount and frame. The painting is in good condition, the frame has some wear including the odd chip.
