Victorian Burr walnut davenport / writing desk ca 1870. This striking antique Victorian Burr walnut davenport / writing desk has a beautifully shaped writing compartment that sits perfectly at the rear of the desk and has several letter compartments and pen holder. The compartments are made from fine yet sturdy pieces of wood. This delightful piece has a lift up lid with brass hinges and beautiful bevelled edging around the top. The writing slope has a faux black leather writing surface and the interior has pigeon holes, faux drawers with petite knobs. The piece is serpentine fronted, has two beautifully scrolled uprights, has four graduating mahogany lined drawers with neat turned knobs at either side. The piece stands on turned bun feet with casters and is a golden walnut colour with striking grain, good patina, and is in good condition, which has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing. SOLD Burr Walnut Davenport

An exquisite burr walnut davenport with pop-up back and piano-front top. The interior reveals a lift-up writing/reading slope, ink pots, pen tray and 2 small drawers. Outside there are 4 drawers to the right-hand side and 4 dummy drawers to the left-hand side. The pop-up back has 3 small drawers inside and 4 pigeonholes lined in sycamore. Ca. 1860.

Mid 19th C Burr Walnut Davenport with maple interior

A Fine Mid 19th Century Burr Walnut Davenport with a beautiful bird's eye maple interior. Original condition including leather & gallery. This desk is stamped by the maker, Thomas Seddon, 67 New Bond St, London, and the locks are by Hobbs. Circa 1855. 25" w x 24" d x 32" h Historical note: This important firm was founded in 1753 by George Seddon I, and by 1786 employed 400 men. By the third generation (Thomas II and George Seddon III) they were handling, with Nicholas Morel, a major commission to refurnish Windsor Castle to a value of £200,000, and were awarded a Royal Warrant in 1832. In 1853 the remaining partner Thomas II moved from Grays In Road to 67 New Bond Street, until his demise in 1868. Their signature "stiff lotus" carving on the columns is noted throughout the period from c.1820

A Walnut Davenport with inlaid detail on the drawer fronts. One side with a shallow cupboard the other side with a flight of drawers including a small pen drawer. The slope has a leather top and there is a brass rail around the top. Measures 26" x 20"

The piece has a red tooled leather writing slope and the edges have boxwood and ebony banding. The interior has one drawer and two faux drawers. One side of the piece has four mahogany lined graduating drawers with burr walnut fronts and original turned knobs. The opposite side has four faux drawers. The front of the piece has two beautiful turned columns and boxwood and ebony banding. The piece stands on turned bun feet with castors, is a warm, rich walnut colour with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing. This is fine quality Victorian rosewood and burr walnut Davenport desk with boxwood stringing and bird's eye maple inlay. It has a faded black tooled leather writing slope which lifts to reveal 3 small galleries and 3 dummy drawers. To the top there is a compartment with a hinged lid which opens to reveal various sections including pen tray. There are 4 drawers down the right hand side and 4 dummy drawers to the left, all having turned wooden knobs. The Davenport stands on later castors. H 32", W 21.5", D 21"

The piece has shaped brackets at the front, stands on turned bun feet with original brown porcelain castors and has beautiful satinwood banding and ebony and boxwood string inlay at the front. The top of the davenport has a pen holder and two inkwell holders (possibly fitted later). The piece is a golden walnut colour with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
