London 1830 William IV period superb round vinaigrette by famous makers REILY AND STORER.

Wonderful London 1830 William IV period English hallmarked solid silver round vinaigrette by famous London silversmiths Charles Reily and George Storer. They were well known for producing very fine quality small silver boxes. A vinaigrette is a small box that would be used by both men and women, and would contain a small bit of sponge which would be soaked in perfume, vinegar, or smelling salts. The purpose of this was to cope with the bad smells of the time, when sanitation and personal hygiene were not up to par. One would lift the lid and take a sniff, which would temporarily bring some relief. The well to do carried solid silver vinaigrettes, which would fit easily into handbags or pockets. Sometimes they were also included in large fitted complete travelling sets, with other vanity items. This 3 piece vinaigrette has an air tight fitted lid and is beautifully engraved on all sides, including the bottom. It has a lovely gilt interior, and a removable leaf pierced grill with rope twist loop handle. The engraving is very fine. The three pieces all fit tightly and perfectly. Size-1 5/8 inches diameter by 7/8 inches high. Weight-50 grams. A fine quality vinaigrette by very good makers, in very good condition.

1860 SAMPSON MORDAN SCENT PERFUME BOTTLE VINAIGRETTE

NEW. A very fine and scarce amethyst glass scent bottle/vinaigrette, the rectangular cut glass body with scrolling foliate engraved spring catch hinged lid, the base with a similarly decorated vinaigrette, the hinged cover revealing a pierced interior grill and original sponge. Condition: very small and unobtrusive dimple to the back of the lid; minor surface age and use wear; no cracks, bruises or hairlines; hinges firm; good firm closures; silver gilt in very good condition - if you have any questions about this item, contact me. 1871 SAMPSON MORDAN VINAIGRETTE SCENT PERFUME BOTTLE

A scarce and fine sterling silver scent bottle and vinaigrette in the shape of a hunting horn, suspended from a hanging chain and ring. The bottle has a hinged top with pierced vinaigrette grill at one end, and a screw cap perfume holder at the other. c1850 CRYSTAL VINAIGRETTE SCENT PERFUME BOTTLE GOLD TOP

A most attractive, horn shape, cut glass vinaigrette, with a hinged gold top, pierced grill, and suspensory ring. The bottle is notch cut on the convex side and bevel cut on the concave surface. The top is engraved "F Roe" in swirling letters. Condition: some surface age and use wear, extreme tip possibly repolished; no damage found - if you have any questions about this item, contact me. Gold Mounted Vinaigrette.

George III glass, gold mounted vinaigrette; this gorgeous piece is in it's original fitted case and in outstanding condition. The gold mounted top unscrews from the glass bottle to fill the bottle, and when it is in situ the lid swivels to allow the aroma to be sampled, then swivels back to close. In superb condition and a really charming piece. c.1790. English. Height 2.25cm.

NEW. A petite, compressed globular opaline - also known as milk glass - vinaigrette bottle, with a foliate and scrollwork embossed hinged silver top, pierced convex grill, and screw collar. NEW. A scarce and fine cut glass, oval ruby scent bottle, with a silver gilt spring loaded top, and vinaigrette with hinged cover at the base. The pierced vinaigrette grill is decorated with foliate scrollwork, and the lid and base are ornately engraved with the initials "WSA".
