A lovely English/Swiss Hallmarked 1907 silver and tortoiseshell bedroom 8-day strut timepiece by William Communs retailed by Hamilton & Inches, Edinburgh, the superb silver and tortoiseshell case with very fine engraved silver inlay to front panel in the form of flowers and foliage, the top keyless wound fine quality Swiss 8-day pocket watch type movement with lever escapement and bimetallic compensated balance, the perfect white enamel dial signed Hamilton & Inches, Edinburgh with black Roman numerals and subsidary seconds, circa 1907 5" x 4" x 1.5"

A rare miniature carriage timepiece in an ivory case with carved beaded pillars and ivory side and back panels with relief carvings of flowers and there is an oval top glass and ivory beaded carrying handle. The enamel dial has roman numerals and delicate blue steel hands. The 8 day French movement has an 11 jewel lever platform escapement. The miniature comes with a velvet lined red leather carrying case. Height 8.5cms

A very original second half of the 19th century lacquered brass Sir Walter Scott Memorial Skeleton timepiece  

A very original second half of the 19th century lacquered brass Sir Walter Scott Memorial Skeleton timepiece under glass dome with original rosewood base, attributed to William Frederick Evans of Handsworth, the typical spired frame with four buttresses and a cast figure of Sir Walter Scott and his dog, the finely pierced silvered chapter ring with Gothic Roman numerals and trefoil hands, the 8-day single chain fusee movement with six spokes wheels, maintaining power and vertically mounted English type lever platform escapement, the plain gilt three arm monometallic balance, circa 1860, contained under a perfect large size original oval shaped glass dome sitting on a figured rosewood base with bun feet, In 1850 Evans produced his famous skeleton clock which was based on the Scott Memorial. This was shown at the great exhibition 1851 and is now in the city museum and art gallery. The clock proved to be extremely popular and he started to produce them in limited numbers. Even though the original was a two train with balance wheel and had a relatively detailed frame and marble base, those that were produced after varied greatly, 26” x 15” x 9”
