NEW. An extremely well painted four tile panel executed on Minton blanks. Worked overglaze in cold painted polychrome enamel, the scene depicts a fishing boat under sail on a choppy sea, the crew handling a heavy net, the waves surging from left to right. A further fishing boat can be seen on the right, a steamship with sail masts on the left. Other shipping is visible on the horizon below an underglaze blue sky filled with puffy clouds. c.1885 MAW AESOP'S FABLES TILE DOCTOR & THE DYING MAN

A good black and white example of Maw & Co's "Aesop's Fables" series featuring "The Doctor & the Dying Man". The tile shows a man lying ill in bed, while two doctors discuss his condition. The edges are decorated with a dart leaf and flower head frieze . A splendid dark cream ground tile featuring two birds - one perched, the other in flight - and two sets of wild flowers, stems and leaves. The brown printed motifs are placed within circular frames, and the resulting four panels are divided by quatrefoil pattern stripes.
