Rare Irish early 18 cent curled end teaspoon |
| An interest5ing example of a George II silver teaspoon in an unusual pattern. The tapering handle is reeded front and back, and the very end is curled. Marks difficult to decipher because, as is usual at this time, they were individually struck and the stem later reshaped by the silversmith. Maker's mark appears to be 'RK', followed by what is almost certainly the harp for Ireland and an indistinct punch which looks like the simple Hibernia in use 1731-2. As is quite usual at this period, the clear marks on each are only those of the maker Thomas Evans, and the sterling lion. The egg shaped bowls with their impressed shells are in unusually good condition with very little wear. The handles indicate by their shape that they date from the time when the Old English pattern was superseding the Hanoverian. The top of each is engraved with the contemporary initials "BF" |
