Early 20th century large 104 piece American sterling silver flatware or cutlery service for a minimum of 12 people, in original solid mahogany canteen.

From a family estate, an elegant early 20th century 104 piece excellent quality sterling silver (.925 fineness, the same as English silver) cutlery service for 12 plus people, weighing a very heavy 3215 grams, or greater than 7 lbs! The 18 knives, having silver handles with stainless blades have not been included at all in the weight. The service is contained in the original, restored solid mahogany case with brass plaque and handles. The service is comprised of two similar and compatible patterns, Fairfax by Gorham (60 pieces), and Governor Bradford by International (44 pieces). Both are very well regarded companies. The service consists of 104 pieces comprising: 18 dinner knives with stainless blades (12 dinner size, and 6 place size); 18 dinner forks (12 dinner size and 6 place size); 18 teaspoons; 13 salad forks; 13 butter/cheese knives; 9 soup spoons, 8 ice cream forks (very unusual, expensive, and rare); 6 serving spoons; 1 master butter knife. Size-dinner knives 9.75 inches and 10 inches long; place size knives 8.75 inches long; dinner forks 7.75 inches long; place size forks 7.25 inches long; teaspoons 6 inches and 5.75 inches long; salad forks 6.5 inches long; butter/cheese knives 5.5 inches long; soup spoons 7 inches long by nearly 2 inch wide bowls; ice cream forks 5.5 inches long; serving spoons 8.5 inches long by 1.75 inch wide bowls; master butter knife 6.75 inches long. This service is in very good condition, and comes complete with the original case. It is a beautiful set for your table, and an excellent value, which will provide many years of service.

Rare Victorian silver toast rack in the form of vine leaves

This is a superb rare and stunning large and heavy Victorian 6 division silver toast rack fashioned in the form of a vine branch and vine leaves. The rack consists of a central vine branch with cast vine leaves rising up to form the divisions and spreading left and right to form the supports. The branch curls at one end to form the handle, and the whole rack is supported on four ball feet. The leaves are beautifully shaped to curl over one another and beautifully detailed with veins. A very rare and remarkable toast rack. Condition: Very good. There are no dents or splits, but there is a small repair to the underside of the very front leaf, and a very slight sign of the repair on top of this leaf. The repair under the leaf, of course can’t be seen in use, and the repair mark to the top hardly noticeable. I don’t think this hugely impacts this wonderful Victorian piece. Dimensions: 9 Ό” (23 cm) long, 4 ½” (11 cm ) in breadth, and 3 Ύ” (9.5 cm) high. Weight: 10 ½ oz (300g) Maker: Makers mark slightly rubbed, possibly JG Hallmark: Birmingham 1873 If you would like to purchase, view, or require further information including postage costs please contact us at marshalee@btinternet.com or call us on 07918 917206 quoting ref: m22

The wide silver surround is beautifully embossed with flowers and leaves on a matt background. There is a large vacant cartouche at the top of the frame. The glass mirror has a lovely bevelled frosted edge, which sympathises beautifully with the soft matt background of the silver. The glass mirror seems to be in too good condition to be original, but is a good quality mirror of thick glass. The back of the frame is velvet lined. This is original and is a little worn and faded, of course, but is still in quite good condition. There is a hinged support which is completely sound, and the mirror stands perfectly. There is also a wire for hanging. Condition: Excellent. There are no dents splits repairs or holes. All the pins are in place. The glass mirror is perfect. There is a slight raised mark on the interior of the lid of the teapot. This might have been original or is possibly an old repair.
