Small Antique French Gilt Brass Clock Set

Small Antique French Gilt Brass Clock Set. ~ French - Circa 1890 ~ ~~ Excellent condition ~~ A beautiful, small gilt brass clock set that will easily sit on a 5" mantle shelf if required by folding in the candelabra arms, see the pictures below. Style is Louis XVI, classical and symmetric decorated with floral swags and urns. The front of the case is finely fretted foliage which allows the pendulum to be glimpsed swinging inside the case. Gilding is excellent and original, in clean and bright condition. Candelabra have original snuffers which sit in the central sconce as a finial. These match the finial of the clock. Dial is a lovely off-white decorated with delicate floral swags. The French movement is of the highest quality and has the clockmakers mark on the movement backplate. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully serviced by our clockmaker. Pendulum has been replaced. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. There is some very minor wear to the original gilding on the high spots. Candelabra arms and stems are slightly distorted. The dial is also in excellent condition with no damage. He came to London in the 1770s, settling at Royal Exchange in 1804. He gained his Freedom of the Clockmakers’ Company 1786 and became a Warden in 1811, the year he died. James McCabe was succeeded by his son, also James, and it is he who must be regarded as one of the most successful English clock and watchmakers of the nineteenth century producing many fine examples. Of typical Rococo design, with C scrolls, and swirling foliage. The modelling of the case is beautiful and is of the highest quality with sharp detail and the original gilding is clean, bright and fresh. The beautiful enamel on copper dial and delicately fretted blued steel hands are original. French movement is by Japy Freres, the mark is on the movement backplate. It runs for 8 days and is in excellent, clean and running condition having been fully cleaned and overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is an old replacement. Condition of the case is excellent - there are no losses and the finish of the gilding is bright and clean. The enamel dial is also in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. SOLD Japy Freres Small Louis XV Cartel Clock

Japy Freres Small Louis XV Cartel Clock ~ Antique French - Circa 1870 ~ ~~ Excellent condition ~~ A lovely small antique Cartel clock by the famous maker Japy Freres. It is in the style of Louis XV examples and is beautifully modelled in gilt brass. The dial is cream enamel with blue lettering and is complete with the original gilt brass fretted hands. Japy Freres movement is of excellent quality as you would expect from this maker. It is in excellent condition having been completely overhauled by our clock maker - click the movie below to hear the bell strike and see the clock running. It runs for 8 days and strikes half hourly on a bell and is complete with an old replacement pendulum. Condition of the case is excellent with a bright and clean finish, some wear to the original gilding and some tarnish / discolouration in places. Back door catch is missing - this does very little anyway. Dial is has some chipping around the Brocot shaft, otherwise is in excellent condition. Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key.
