| A fine and beautiful example of an English hallmarked sterling silver wine ewer or claret jug. In classical vase form, the body a panelled oval standing on a short leg and oval foot. Hinged lid. Hallmarked for London 1794 with makers initials 'WpelletS'. Engraved on one side of the body only with a crest of a seated lion holding a mallet surmounting large initials 'JSM'. Total height 30cms. Immaculate condition apart from a very small dent on the shaft for the handle where it joins the body of the jug. Gross weight 23ozs. |
19thC French 1st standard solid silver wine taster or tastevin. |
| 19th century (circa 1838) lovely solid French hallmarked 1st standard silver wine taster .950 fine, a higher silver content than English hallmarked sterling.
A tastevin or wine taster, is designed to catch as much light as possible in order to judge the clarity and colour of wine. Sommeliers and winemakers used the cup with its shiny surface, facets and convex bottom, to be able to see through the wine in dim cellars.
This is a fine heavy twist fluted and reverse punched beaded tastevin, without personal engraving, and with thumb rest to ring handle.
3.5 inches in diameter includes handle, or 2.6 inches without handle. 1 inch high, and weighs 50 grams.
Wonderful for the collector of small silver objects or the wine connoisseur. A great talking point for a wine tasting party!

| Turn of 19th/20th centuries, large pair of sheffield silver plated wine coasters with cast and applied edges of grapes and vines, on bulbous tapering sides, over turned wood bases.
Their large size will hold decanters and magnum sized bottles.
Size-8 inches diameter outside, and 5 inches diameter inside, by 3 inches high.
In excellent condition, this pair is both useful and very beautifully crafted.

| This striking Chippendale Style flamed mahogany silver / lamp / wine table has a flamed mahogany top with a raised moulded edge above a deep frieze. The piece has shaped brackets, canted corners and a beautiful X shaped fretwork stretcher. The piece is a rich red mahogany colour with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good original condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
