Silver Vesta Case

Antique Silver Vesta Case.  

Good size antique American 925 silver vesta case; pretty foliate pattern with Masonic motif. Lovely quality interesting and collectable piece. c1890. 6.5cm X 4.5cm.

Victorian Silver Vesta Case   

A Victorian silver vesta case, carrying maker's mark, JHT, for Joseph Hayes Taylor, and hallmarks for Birmingham 1880. The vesta has a ring attachment, sliding compartment and match striker. Width: 0.75 in / 2 cm Length: 1.375 in / 3.5 cm Condition : Very good. Some slight surface scratches commensurate with age.

Birmingham 1930 solid silver beautiful and intricately engraved matchsafe.  

Birmingham 1930 beautifully engraved solid silver matchsafe of excellent quality. Vesta cases and match safes are airtight cases made to contain short friction matches and keep them safe and dry. They were made in many materials, and some in precious metals like this one, usually with gilt linings, to protect against corrosion from the match heads. They were widely made and used from 1890-1920. Now, they are very collectable and interesting small antique silver items, used for pills, etc. Of excellent quality, this match safe has all over hexagonal engraving, a vacant cartouche, and tapered edges. Also includes original matches. Weight-40 grams. Size-2.5 inches by 1.75 inches. A lovely example in excellent condition.

Antique Silver Vesta Case.  

Antique American silver vesta case; good quality with horses and riders in relief on both sides. The quality of this charming piece is outstanding. c.1890. 5cm. x 4cm.

Rare Vic vesta case  

A rare vesta case in the form of a baby in a shirt. Continental silver, unmarked. Length 6cms. Excellent condition, c.1860

Silver vesta case  

A very nice antique silver vesta case in excellent condition. Diagonally moulded all over and in excellent condition. Halmarked for Birmingham 1890. Ht.nearly 2ins (5 cms)

Silver vesta case enamelled with a dog  

A silver vesta case enamelled on the front with an image of a Jack Russell terrier, the reverse engraved with a crest of a prancing dog. Hallmarked for London 1896, makers' mark Samson Morden & Co. Condition very good apart from dome scratching to the enaml - NO CHIPS.

Silver combination sovereign/vesta case  

An example of a combination coin holder/vesta case, with clear hallmarks for Birmingham 1911. With a totally plain case apart from three contemporary initials engraved on one side, at the top is a hinged lid for the vestas, and at the opposite end another which opens to reveal a single platform for a sovereign. It is slightly less unwieldy than some examples measuring approx. 6.8 cms in length. In very good condition.
