High quality Victorian 4-piece silver tea and coffee set |
| This is a quite superb high quality 4-piece Victorian tea and coffee set by the top class silversmiths Martin, Hall & Co. The set comprises Coffee pot, teapot, cream jug and sugar bowl. The set is designed with half reeded circular bodies with a plain band surmounted by a band of beautiful leaf engraving and high beaded shoulders, and leaf capped reeded handles. The hinged covers of the teapot and coffee pot have an applied rosette band and silver finials with a leaf surround. The teapot and coffee pot have ivory thermal inserts. The interiors of the cream jug and coffee pot are gilt.
Condition: Virtually perfect. There are no dents or splits and no scratching to the plain surfaces. There is a slight raised mark on the interior of the lid of the teapot. This might have been original or is possibly an old repair. It doesn’t show on the upper side of the lid and I think it’s of little consequence, but should be mentioned. The hinges of the coffee pot and tea pot are perfect and the lids open and close perfectly and precisely. The pins where the thermal inserts are attached to the handles are all in place and the handles are perfectly firm. The coffee pot and teapot are perfectly clean inside.
Dimensions: Teapot is 5” (13 cm) tall and measures 10” (25 cm) from the edge of the handle to the tip of the spout. Coffee pot is 7 ½” (19 cm) tall and measures 9” (22 cm) from the edge of the handle to the tip of the spout. The cream jug is 3” (7.5 cm) tall and measures 5 ½” (14 cm) from the edge of the handle to the tip of the spout. The sugar bowl is 4” (10 cm) tall and measures 6 ¾” (17 cm) from the edge of one handle to the edge of the other.
Weight: The teapot weighs 20 oz (570g). The coffee pot weighs 21 ½ oz ( 600g). The cream jug weighs 6 ½ oz (170g). The sugar bowl weighs 10 ½ oz (300g). Total weight of the set is 58 ½ oz (1640g).
Capacity: Teapot 2 ¼ pints (1.2 litres). Coffee pot 2 ¼ pints (1.3 litres)
Maker: Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall of Martin, Hall & Co

Set Of Four Silver Salt Cellars. |
| Wonderful quality set of four silver salt cellars; round cauldron shape with cast knurlled gadroon borders, each on three cast lion-mask and pad feet, with blue glass liners. The last time we saw four salt cellars of this quality they were made by the master silversmith Paul Storr. The gauge of metal used is extremely thick and each salt feels the weight of a cricket ball! James Dixon have been making fine silver since 1806 and still have the patterns and catalogues from this period. If they were Georgian, these would be museum pieces.
